一、引入話題

Lily: Welcome to our class, I’m Lily.

Lu: I’m Lu.

Lily: Today let’s go to a white world--- the Arctic北極。

Lu: 北極是指北緯66度34分（北極圈）以北的廣大區域，也叫做北極地區。

Lily: In the Arctic, there’re lots of lovely animals and people.

Lu: In this unit, we’ll talk about their life there.

二、學習內容

Lily: Do you want to know something about the Arctic?

Lu: Well, 在本單元我們將要學習一首關于北極熊的兒歌---The polar bear, 一篇

關于北極人類生活的課文，一篇關于北極動物生活的課文---Animals of the

Arctic，以及一個關于北極生活的故事---Nicola’s holidays.

三、學習要求

Lily: When we finish this unit, we can understand:

Northern Canada. Most of the year it’s very cold here. In winter it’s always dark. In summer

it’s never dark. This is my father on his snowmobile. Build an igloo. Inside an igloo. Their fur

live in groups. They make tunnels under the snow. They can hide in the tunnels. Snowy owls

hunt in the daytime. They also hunt birds. Do you like it here? There are no shopping malls.

We’re going to the shopping mall. Tomorrow I’ll show you my TV. Wasn’t it boring?

People’s life:

Lily: The Arctic is really a cold place.

Lu: You are right. Most of the year it’s very cold there. 一年的大部分時間那里都

很冷。最暖和的時候平均氣溫只有零下8度, 最冷的時候氣溫達到零下50多度。

Lily: And I think the Arctic is a special place, too.

Lu: 為什么你認為北極是個特別的地方呢？

Lily: Becau in winter it’s always dark. In summer it’s never dark.

Lu: 你說的是北極的極晝極夜現象。的確，北極的冬天是漫長、寒冷而黑暗的，

從每年的11月23日開始有接近半年時間將是完全看不見太陽的日子。

Lily：Terrible! How can the people live there? 在北極人們如何生活呢？

Lu：They are strong and brave. 居住在北極的愛斯基摩人是從亞洲經兩次遷

徙進入北極地區的。他們無疑是最強悍、最勇敢和最堅忍不拔的民族。

Lily：我還知道愛斯基摩是一個民族，不同地區的愛斯基摩人對自己有不同

的稱呼。比如：美國阿拉斯加地區的愛斯基摩人稱自己為“因紐皮特人”，加

拿大的愛斯基摩人稱自己為“因紐特人”，格陵蘭島的愛斯基摩人稱自己為

“卡拉特里特”，意思都是“人”。愛斯基摩人認為“人”是生命王國里至高無上

的代表。

Lily：Oh, it’s so interesting. In the text Howard is from Gri Fjord in northern

Canada. 課文里Howard就是住在加拿大北部的格里茲峽灣，那里是加拿大

最北端的因紐特人聚居區。And I know that they can u snowmobile and build

an igloo in the Arctic.

Lu：You’re right. Snowmobile是雪橇。愛斯基摩人賴以生存的大多數動物每

年至少要遷移兩次，因而注定他們跟隨食物源過著遷移的生活。愛斯基摩

人遷移主要是靠雙腳徒步旅行。冬季他們使用狗拉雪橇，夏季由于冰雪融

化，雪橇無法使用，只能讓狗駝一些東西。

Lily：What about the igloo?

Lu: Igloo是雪屋。其實愛斯基摩人將所有的房子都稱為igloo。提起愛斯基

摩人就聯想到他們住在雪屋中，其實這也是非常片面的。實際上只有3/4的

愛斯基摩人都沒有見過這種雪屋，常年住在雪屋的只是極地愛斯基摩人。

雪屋的建筑材料就是一條條長方形的大雪塊，先將雪塊交錯堆壘成小屋，

再在雪塊之間澆水，很快便凍成一體，密不透風。絕對稱得上是無污染建

筑。

Lily: Oh, so cool, I like the life in the Arctic.

Animals of the Arctic:

Lu: In the Arctic there’re also lots of animals. Such as: the polar bear, the arctic fox,

the arctic hare, the snowy owl, the lemming, the al…（PPT---圖片）

Lily: 是啊，在北極有許多可愛的動物，北極熊、北極狐、北極兔、雪鷹、旅鼠、

海豹??

Lu: You know the king of the Arctic is the polar bear, he is a really big guy. About 3

metres, 650 kilos. （PPT---圖片）

Lily: 北極動物之王---北極熊真的是個大家伙，它們大約有3米高，650千克重。

Lu：Oh, my! So they need to eat more. Their favourite food is als, and they also

hunt the arctic hare.

Lu：別看北極熊體積龐大，但是他們能靈活地捕捉海豹和北極兔呢！

Lily：Do you remember the lovely polar bear in the chant? 還記得兒歌里那只可愛

的北極熊嗎？

Lu：Yeah, he wants to catch a hare. 他想去捉一只北極兔。

Lily：What does he do?

Lu: He jumps in the water, swims across the lake, walks through the snow, and he

runs up the hill. (PPT---圖片講解)

Lily: Can he catch the hare in the end?

Lu: Hehe, he comes to a top, he comes to a stop, he looks around, what’s not there?

Lily: The hare, the arctic hare. Oh, a poor polar bear!

Lu: The polar bear’s fur is white, why not black or brown?

Lily: The Arctic is a white world, the snow is white, so they can hide when they hunt,

the other animals cannot e them.

Lu: 許多動物和北極熊一樣都有保護色，有的動物還能隨著環境的變化改變自己

身體的顏色，能很好的保護自己，比如：變色龍、蛇。

Lily: 據我所知，北極兔也會隨著季節的變化改變皮毛的顏色呢！

Lu：The polar bear is the big one in the arctic. The arctic fox is the beautiful animal

there. 北極狐有著美麗的白色的皮毛，they have beautiful white fur.

Lily: And in winter they live in groups. They make tunnels under the snow.（PPT---圖

Lu: 在北極有一些動物和北極狐一樣都是群居生活的,比如: reindeer（北極馴鹿）

等。也有一些北極動物和北極狐一樣能在雪下打一個地道，在溫暖的地道里過冬，

比如：the al, the arctic hare。

Lily: There are some kinds of birds in the Arctic. Snowy owls is one of them.

Lu: 在北極除了陸地和海里的動物也有一些鳥類，雪鷹就是其中的一種。它們會

在白天捕獵，和北極狐一樣它們最喜歡的食物是旅鼠。

Lily：The animals in the Arctic are unique, I love them.

Lu: I think so!

Nicola’s holidays:

Lu: Do you want to go to the Arctic?

Lily: Of cour I want, but I have no chance.

Lu: Our friend Nicola is so lucky, she can go there for her holidays.

Lily: Nicola很幸運，她可以去北極度過她的假期，因為她的爺爺奶奶就住在那

兒。Does she like the Arctic?

Lu: At first, she doesn’t like there, she thinks it’s boring.

Lily: Boring? Why?

Lu: She said: “ There’re no shopping malls, no playgrounds and there’s no TV.”(PPT

Lily: 是有些無趣，沒有購物中心，沒有操場，甚至沒有電視，I think so! And then?

Lu: 接下來的幾天granddad給Nicola安排了豐富多彩的活動。他們去釣魚go

fishing，建造拱形圓頂小屋build an igloo，觀察北極熊watch the polar bears。

Lily: I am sure she is happy.

Lu: Bingo! Nicola 玩得很開心，she said: This is great fun. 這真是太好玩了！這真

是太有趣了！

Lily: Oh, she likes the Arctic. 愉快的寒假生活讓Nicola 流連忘返。臨別時她還問：

Can I come again next year? 明年我能再來嗎？

Lu: Her grandma asked: “ Wasn’t it boring?” 奶奶問她：“你不是覺得很無聊嗎？”

Nicola answered: “ Yes, very boring!”

Lily: So strange! Nicola 為什么回答 Very boring!呢？她不喜歡她的假期嗎？

Lu：Hehe，she is so humor. Nicola是在開玩笑呢！

Lily：Oh, I e. Nicola had interesting holidays!
