northern region of Japan. The novel is a delicate blend of

traditional Japane culture, human psychology, and a portrayal of

The book beautifully describes the changes of asons and the way

the snow covers the town, creating a cocoon-like environment that

somehow encapsulates the characters. The snow also rves as a
