申請書(Application)寫作范圍很廣，實用性很強。在西方，許多人求職就業、求學深造都必須先寫申請書。寫申請書被視為展示自已的觀點、抱負、能力、熱情、特長及知識的機會．所以申請書寫得都很嚴肅認真，力求引起對方的重視，以便獲得就業或人學的機會。
申請書一般包括年齡、性別、自己的工作能力、受過何種訓練和教育，有哪些資歷、成就、希望和抱負等內容。申請書的寫作既要簡明有趣、不落俗套，又要防止寫得古怪異常、嘩眾取寵。千萬不要把求職申請建立在別人同情自己的基礎上，比如說，母親生病需要花錢而急需找到一份工作等。申請應建立在自己能力的基礎上，建立在你希望有所成就和作為的基礎上。不要擔心自己的閱歷不豐富，沒有獲過獎勵等。實際上，在學校參加過的各種活動都可以算作經歷，例如，參加過業余演出和辯論會，榮獲過某種獎勵，當過學生干部等，這些都可以寫出來，讓對方加深對你的了解。

(1)寫作注意事項及要求
①客觀陳述事實經歷，用語客觀樸實，行文沉著老練，多使用 might be,would like to,wish,it seems to me that,although , should like to feel, provided ,if等表示委婉客氣、有商量余地的“緩沖”詞匯。與訓練和受教育有關的事實經過可以客觀地陳述出來，避免表達主觀見解，讓人看后自己去下結論。
②不要過分渲染自我。你當然認為自己有能力，夠資格才申請某一職位，但申請書中切忌過分夸大自己的能力或表現出過分的自信，尤其不要說出與事實不符的能力或特長來。
③英文申請書最好使用品質優良的白色信紙和信封。申請者常常需要親筆謄寫，字體要寫得清晰可辨，龍飛鳳舞的字跡無疑是自尋絕路。當然，最好用電腦打出，不僅顯得莊重有禮而且也比較具有現代氣息。
