關于傳統的英文閱讀：七夕傳統風俗大觀

七夕“乞巧”的風俗由來已久，年輕女孩子們在這一天乞求的，

不僅僅是巧奪天工的好手藝，還會乞求一段美好姻緣。似乎是TVB劇中經常出現七夕之夜女子祈求姻緣的橋段~不知道今年七夕，有多少人會在星空之下默默祈禱呢?

這里“乞巧”的這個“乞”，我們可以說beg，也可以用plead這個詞，plead to be endowed with perfect wing skills. 貌似這兩個詞都和浪漫氣氛不符哦，plead其實更常見于法庭上，律師為某人辯護，就是plead one's ca;而那句我們耳熟能詳的“不認罪”，則是plead not guilty，反之“認罪”就是plead guilty——注意這里的用法，比較特殊哦，是在動詞plead后面直接加形容詞guilty——法官就會經常問這句話：Do you plead guilty or not guilty?你可認罪?也有一個更常見的情況，就是被告人plead insanity，以精神失常為借口，試圖減輕刑罰。

回到七夕乞巧的風俗吧，乞巧是為了精進自己的女紅手藝，女紅(注意啊注意啊，這里的“紅”讀音是“工”，不要讀錯了哦)也就是針線活，用英語說就是doing needlework。印象中女紅活兒就是刺繡(embroider)吧，不知道現在還有多少女孩子會刺繡活兒呢?似乎大家都更prefer簡單易學的十字繡 (cross-stitch)了。那么，學十字繡的話，也是需要乞一下巧的吧……
