一、基本詞義

vt.（forbade/forbad,forbidden）禁止，不準

Women are_forbidden_from going out without a veil.

婦女不帶面紗禁止外出。

I will forbid you to leave unless you apologize for what you have done.

如果你不為自己所做的事情道歉，我不允許你離開。

二、習慣用語

sth禁止某事

Parliament pasd an Act forbidding the killing of rare animals.國會通過了一

項法令，禁止捕殺珍稀動物。

2. forbid sb. sth. 禁止或不準某人使用某物或進入某處。如：

His wife forbids him wine. 他老婆不準他喝酒。

We forbid him the hou. 我們不準他進屋。

3. forbid doing sth. 禁止或不準做某事。如：

We forbid smoking in the office. 本辦公室內不準吸煙。

I forbid him going there again. 我不準他再去那兒。

注：forbid 一般不直接跟不定式作賓語。

4. forbid sb. to do sth. 禁止或不準某人做某事。如：

I forbid him to go there again. 我不準他再去那兒。

The teacher forbids the students to read such books. 老師不準學生看那樣的

書。

【友情提示】通常不說 forbid sb from doing sth, 盡管現代英語已有此用法，但很

多詞書反對這一用法，中學生宜慎用。另外，forbid后面不能直接跟動詞不定式作賓語，

而是跟動名詞作賓語，但可以用forbid do sth. 形式，有類似用法的單詞還有 allow,

permit, advi 等。
